Projects - Education

The first school we supported is located in Kalleda village,Warangal district, Telangana. Rural Development Foundation, a non-governmental organization headquartered in Hyderabad, along with a local village committee manage the day-to-day operations of this school.

This school started in 1996 currently has a strength of around 560 students, and 10 grades (Kindergarten through Grade 10). It offers high quality education to the children of Kalleda and surrounding villages. The first graduating class (2004) passed  with distiction. Close to 50% of the seats are reserved for girls, and admission to the school is based on a lottery system. Care is taken to ensure all communities are adequately represented based on the local demographics.  The children have access to their own computer center and the internet. All students are provided nutritional mid-day meals, school uniforms and books. The purpose of the school uniforms is to eliminate caste and class barriers.

The archery team from this school has done wonders in the past few years. Two of its students Pranitta Vardhineni and Adonda Raju represented India in the world Junior Championships in Mexico (October 14-21, 2006) where Pranitta & Raju won a silver Medal and won a Bronze respectively!

Since 2007, Washington University students have been augmenting the teaching at the RDF Junior College- "Achutha Pai Campus" with mini courses under the Village India program.
